STRATEGY & OVERSIGHT
You need a data function. You don’t need to build one from scratch.
Most organisations know they need better data governance, strategy, and leadership, but building that capability takes years and significant investment. DMO as a Service gives you that capability immediately, at the maturity level you actually need right now.
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
“We know we need better data governance and leadership but we can’t justify a full-time Chief Data Officer yet.”
“Our data capability depends on one or two people and when they leave, the knowledge leaves with them.”
“We have compliance requirements, AI ambitions, and data quality problems and no clear owner for any of it.”
Everything a functioning data office covers.
A DMO engagement touches every layer of your data operation. We scope which elements are relevant based on your maturity and where the gaps are.
Data strategy & roadmap
A prioritised plan for how data creates value in your organisation, sequenced by impact and feasibility, revisited as your business evolves.
Data governance framework
Policies, ownership, quality standards, and the processes that keep data trustworthy as your organisation grows and changes.
Data architecture review
Auditing your current stack, identifying gaps, and designing the infrastructure that supports your data ambitions without over-engineering.
Compliance alignment
NDMO, PDPL, and other applicable frameworks built into the operation and not bolted on after a regulatory deadlines.
AI readiness
Identifying where AI creates value in your organisation and what data foundations need to be in place before any deployment begins.
Team capability building
Upskilling your internal team so the capability stays when we reduce our involvement.
A structured engagement instead of an open-ended retainer.
Every DMO engagement follows the same four-phase process. The scope and duration vary based on which mode you choose and where your data maturity sits today.
Diagnostic
We audit your current data maturity — where data lives, how it flows, what’s trusted, what’s broken, and what compliance gaps exist. No assumptions, no templates from other industries or other clients.
Design
Based on the diagnostic, we design the data function right for your organisation: governance model, tooling recommendations, team structure, and a phased roadmap with clear ownership at every stage.
Build & operate
We implement the design and run the function. This phase varies by mode: set-up engagements focus on delivery and documentation; embedded and fully-managed modes extend this as an ongoing service.
Transition & handover
For set-up engagements: a fully documented, operational data function handed to your team — with training, runbooks, and a defined support period so nothing gets lost in the transition.
AI that actually works in practice.
“HEMOdata have been instrumental in supporting our journey to define our data technology stack and strategy. We now have a lot more trust in our data, a well-structured tech stack used across business functions, and clear processes and procedures in place. HEMOdata have been a pivotal extension of our team.”
- Full DMO established — policies, governance frameworks, and data management processes built from scratch
- Legal and technical functions aligned under a single governance model
- Continuity maintained through a complex cross-border merger
IS THIS YOU?
Which mode do you need?
Most clients aren’t sure which DMO mode is right for them at the start and that’s exactly what the diagnostic phase is for. But here are the situations that typically point to each one.
“We need to build a data function, get it working, and then run it internally, but don’t know where to start.”
Set up & hand over. We design it, build it, and hand it over — fully documented and with your team trained to run it. Usually a 3–6 month engagement.
“We need ongoing data leadership but can’t justify a full-time CDO salary or in-house data function cost.”
Embedded partner. We act as your data leadership on retainer — attending meetings, making decisions, running the function alongside your team month to month.
“We want to outsource the entire data function and focus on our core business.”
Fully managed. We operate everything — pipelines, governance, compliance, reporting — as a fully managed service. You use the outputs; we run the operation.
